NPI Requirement

The NPI (National Provider Identifier) is a unique, 10-digit numeric identifier that must be used by physicians and other health care professionals when requesting reimbursement for health care services.

“NPI D-Day,” in which the NPI transition occurred, was May 23rd, 2008.    The implementation of the NPI requirement was forecasted to cause a quadruple increase in rejected claims, but Avisena, Inc, through pre-emptive measures, ensured claim rejections were kept below industry standards during the transition.
