AVISENA HOSTS RUSSIAN PHYSICIANS DURING EIGHT-DAY STAY AT MIAMI DADE COLLEGE’S MEDICAL CENTER CAMPUS
MIAMI, FL – Doug Garcia, Avisena executive, presented to a delegation of five Russian physicians at the Medical Center Campus of Miami Dade College (MDC) about the United States healthcare industry on July 21, 2006. Specifically, Garcia focused on the financial aspect of healthcare, speaking about how the U.S. medical billing system works. Most of the attending Russian physicians were chiefs of staff involved in healthcare financial systems.
“We are honored to have been chosen to present to this esteemed commission of physicians,” said Albert Santalo, Avisena President and CEO. “This forum benefited local healthcare professionals enormously, exposing them to discussions on cultural differences in healthcare and education. The knowledge gained today will be essential in helping to address the healthcare needs of our local communities in the future.”
The event was hosted by the MDC Office of International Education and the MDC Medical Center Campus through the Open World Leadership program - “Healthy Communities.” The Healthy Communities program is intended to examine the best practices in community health and the U.S. healthcare insurance system. The Open World Leadership program, sponsored by The United States Library of Congress, allows political and civic leaders from different countries to work with U.S. counterparts. Among the topics discussed were community health and healthcare insurance systems, issues of social services, healthcare delivery and educational services.
An interactive discussion, Garcia’s presentation included a round-table for the physicians to help them understand U.S. healthcare financial systems as compared to Russia.
