AVISENA PRESIDENT ALBERT SANTALO WINS 2006 Florida International University Entrepreneurship Hall of Fame Award WITHIN FOUNDER CATEGORY

MIAMI, FL – Albert Santalo, founder, president and CEO of Avisena, a Miami-based billing and collections company servicing over 500 physicians and $400 million in account receivables under management, was the 2006 inductee into Florida International University (FIU) Entrepreneurship Hall of Fame. FIU, a Kauffman Foundation campus, honors successful entrepreneurs each year.

“This honor has great meaning for me because of FIU’s role in developing me into an entrepreneur. I spent the first 15 years of my career, before founding Avisena, working hard to learn the tools of the trade, and part of this knowledge was acquired while I was a student in FIU’s Executive MBA program.”

Santalo was honored at the seventh annual luncheon ceremony on May 17. The event celebrates the FIU College of Business Administration’s ongoing commitment to entrepeneurship and recognizes alumni who not only are successful entrepreneurs but who have also contributed significantly to the entrepreneurial business community.

As a founder of the company, Santalo has led the growth of the firm from origination to its current size of approximately $400MM in client receivables. He holds a Master of Business Administration Degree from FIU and is a member of the Health Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS) the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA), the Health Care Financial Management Association (HFMA) and the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce. Santalo was the recipient of the FIU 2004 Charles E. Perry Visionary Award for outstanding Alumni.

“I believe that to become a truly great company, you must set an example of hard work, dedication to excellence, integrity and fairness to all stakeholders,” said Santalo. “Most of all, you must surround yourself with a great team and allow others to voice their opinions and express ideas.”

Headquartered in Miami, Florida, Avisena (www.avisena.com) is a healthcare management company that helps medical practices collect more, spend less and live better through the use of advanced technology.
