Avisena Clients Benefit From Pre-emptive Steps for NPI Transition
MIAMI--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Avisena (www.avisena.com), a revenue cycle management (RCM) company servicing the health care industry, announced the success of their pre-emptive measures in preparing for the National Provider Identifier (NPI) requirement. Although healthcare industry experts forecasted a quadruple increase in rejected claims after the NPI deadline, Avisena’s proactive actions ensured claim rejections were kept below industry standards.
To guarantee their clients had an easy transition to the new requirement, Avisena began proactively informing their entire client-base of over 1,550 providers nationwide months in advance. The Avisena team created a step-by-step guide on how to register with each payer, and then used their team to validate the payer setup and make corrections when needed. Finally, on NPI D-Day (May 23rd) they checked that claims were received for every provider/payer combination. Some carriers were not ready for the change and asked us to resubmit claims with legacy numbers. The Avisena team were able to turn all of these resubmissions around in 24-48 hours. Avisena supported its entire network during the transition, and continues to monitor the situation very closely.
“At Avisena we know that our clients are busy providing world class patient care,” said Mike Maseda, Avisena’s President and COO. “Our job is to insulate our clients from the ever-changing complexities of managing the physician revenue cycle.”
Justin Gularek, Chief Operating Officer of South Florida Surgical Specialists, uses Avisena to manage billing and collections for over 12 different providers and five locations. According to Gularek, Avisena constantly kept them abreast on how the NPI transition would affect their multiple provider, multiple location group. Avisena was instrumental in identifying and rectifying NPI-related issues with all payers such as Florida Medicare, Florida Medicaid and Florida BCBS. Claims were electronically resubmitted without disturbing the large group’s everyday functionality.
“Since we were properly trained, things went smooth and gratefully we did not see an increase in rejected claims,” said Gularek. “The transition was transparent to our practices, we didn’t notice any interruption in the functionality within the practices.”
