Certified Professional Coder (CPC)
Medical coding is a vital component in the success of a medical practice, hospital or other healthcare facility. It requires knowledge of medical terminology and the ability to understand and apply appropriate codes to help healthcare providers file claims, bill insurance companies and optimize reimbursements. As a result, Certified Professional Coders provide valuable benefits to employers and offer professionals career opportunities that are in high demand.
In addition to the 16-week CPC class, Avisena Institute offers a four-hour course that prepares existing coders for the national certification exam.
Course Objectives:
- Learn medical terminology and the principles of medical documentation, reimbursement and compliance
- Demonstrate proficiency in procedural coding by learning to identify the principles and purposes of CPT, ICD-9 and HCPCS codes and modifiers and applying them the highest levels of specificity
- Abstract medical records and master the conversion to and application of codes to submit insurance claims in order to optimize reimbursements
- Prepare students for the national certification exam and long-term career success
- Assist students in securing six-week externships and future employment

Textbooks are mandatory for the course and must be purchased separately. Avisena will instruct students how to order textbooks immediately after enrollment (AAPC membership discount will apply).
Following successful completion of the CPC training course, Avisena will assist students in applying for the national certification exam. The cost of the exam is not covered by Avisena Institute's CPC course fee.
