Course Objectives:

  • Learn the principles and purposes of ICD-9 CM, CPT and HCPCS diagnosis and procedure codes and how to apply them appropriately to insurance claims
  • Review and abstract medical records
  • Gain knowledge about the different types of insurance plans and policies and how to apply appropriate codes to meet individual plan requirements and federal regulations
  • Demonstrate abilities to post payments from explanations of benefits (EOBs), apply adjustments and manage accounts receivables
  • Practice acquired skills on Avisena’s revenue cycle management software platform
  • Prepare students for the national certification exam and long-term career success
  • Assist students in securing six-week externships and future employment
