Certified Billing and Coding Specialist (CBCS)
Certified Billing and Coding Specialists like a challenge. As skilled investigators, they use their specialized knowledge of ever-changing medical billing processes to help physician practices and other healthcare facilities save time, improve billing accuracy and drive revenue. For this reason, Certified Billing and Coding Specialists provide a much needed service and, as a result, are highly sought-after in the medical community.
Course Objectives:
- Learn the principles and purposes of ICD-9 CM, CPT and HCPCS diagnosis and procedure codes and how to apply them appropriately to insurance claims
- Review and abstract medical records
- Gain knowledge about the different types of insurance plans and policies and how to apply appropriate codes to meet individual plan requirements and federal regulations
- Demonstrate abilities to post payments from explanations of benefits (EOBs), apply adjustments and manage accounts receivables
- Practice acquired skills on Avisena’s revenue cycle management software platform
- Prepare students for the national certification exam and long-term career success
- Assist students in securing six-week externships and future employment
