Avisena Accounts Receivable Methodology

Traditionally, receivables management systems have aged receivables once, at the close of, each  month. This provides for a distorted picture of accounts receivable because individual accounts (or parts of them) are moved between current, 30, 60, 90 and >180 buckets only at that time. In reality, these items move between categories at various times during the month and may require immediate attention.

Avisena’s medical billing and collections solution ages receivables on a daily basis and posts all responses from third-party payers immediately.  Any insurance receivable that does not have a payment or a denial posted against it after a Revenue Cycle Managementpre-defined amount of time, is flagged by our system to alert Avisena’s collections experts  to begin working immediately.

Each of the aforementioned scenarios are preempted with automatic actions that are defined in the system. For instance, when a claim is deemed “No-Response,” the system automatically generates an electronic claim status request that if successful, will resolve the claim issue automatically without involving a human being. Other automatic actions include rebilling the claim, sending a letter to the insurance company / patient or billing the patient.

Daily aging of receivables provides the following benefits:

  • Identifies potential problem receivables (lost in mail, ignored by insurance company, pending, etc.) at the earliest possible opportunity to enable quick response and action by Avisena’s collectors.
  • Allows the Avisena medical billing and collections system to create automated responses to certain events (i.e. automatic letter generation, resubmission of claim, electronic claim status) rather than human responses, which are more time consuming and costly.
